Conformity to the Will of God

From The Wisdom of the Saints
By Jill HaakAdels

Achieving this virtue can bring great inner peace via the route of fatalistic acceptance. There is more of an element of passive suffering in it than in the ideas of trust and reliance on Providence which can create a mood to support daring, even extremes, enterprises. "Not as I will, but as thou wilt" (Matthew 26:39) is likely to be a preparation for sacrifice.

Our whole perfection consists in loving our most amiable God; and all the perfection of the love of God consists in uniting our will with His most holy will. The greatest glory we can give to God is to fulfill His Blessed Will in all things.
Saint Alphonsus Liguori

If I want only pure water, what does it matter to me whether it be brought in a vase of gold or of glass? What is it to me whether the will of God be presented to me in tribulation or consolation, since I desire and seek only the Divine Will?
Saint Francis De Sales

The accomplishment of the divine will is the sole end for which we are in the world.
Saint Jean Eudes

To do the will of God man must despise his own: the more he dies to himself, the more he will live to God.
Saint Peter Claver

We must remember that it is God’s will, and not our own will, that we must do, for he that doeth His will shall abide forever, even as He abideth forever.
Saint Bede the Venerable

Entire conformity and resignation to the divine will is truly a road on which we cannot go wrong, and it is the only road that leads us to taste and enjoy that peace which sensual and earthly men know nothing of.
Saint Philip Neri

As in heaven Thy will is punctually performed, so may it be done on earth by all creatures, particularly in me and by me.
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary

Thou alone knowest best and what is for my good. As I am not my own but altogether Thine, so neither do I desire that my will be done, but Thine, nor will I have any will but Thine.
Saint Francis Borgia

In order to go to God with your heart, your mind must be undisturbed, indifferent. Keep it quiet. Do things simply, without too much analysis. If you really want to please God and intend to be in full agreement with His Will, you can’t go wrong.
Blessed Francis Libermann

Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what You will. Whatever You may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only Your will be done in me and in all Your creatures—I wish no more than this, Lord.
Venerable Charles De Foucauld

Lift up your heart to him, at the beginning of every action, somewhat like this: "O Jesus, with all my power I renounce myself, my own mind, my own will, and my self-love, and I give myself all to Thee and to Thy holy spirit and Thy divine love. Draw me out of myself and direct me in this action according to Thy holy will."
Saint Jean Eudes

All that the beginner in prayer has to do – and you must not forget this, for it is very important – is to labor and be resolute and prepare himself with all possible diligence to bring his will into conformity with the will of God.
Saint Teresa of Avila

Our Lord takes pleasure in doing the will of those who love him.
Saint John Vianney

Don’t imagine that if you had a great deal of time you would spend more of it in prayer. Get rid of that idea! Again and again God gives more in a moment that in a long period of time, for his actions are not measured by time at all.
Saint Teresa of Avila

The past must be abandoned to God’s mercy, the present to our fidelity, the future to divine providence.
Saint Francis De Sales

Receive poverty, want, sickness, and all miseries joyfully from the hand of God, and with equal joy receive consolation, refreshment, and all super-abundance. By this uniform joy in the will of God thou wilt deaden the stimulus of thy passions.
Saint Macarius the Elder

The heart is rich when it is content, and it is always content when it desires are fixed on God. Nothing can bring greater happiness than doing God’s will for the love of God.
Blessed Miguel Febres Cordero-Munoz
